What I like the most is the unique Konmari method.clothes organization, so it inspired a super quick DIY project: custom drawer dividers.
The best part is that these DIY drawer dividers were created using things already around the house! So basically a completely free drawer makeover!

Benefits of drawer dividers
If you're like me and have a lot of space, you'll only be stuffing folded clothes into your drawers to the point where you have no idea what's under the top layer. Or near the back.
Dividing drawers is a great way to encourage more organized storage of clothes, especially if you wear them.KonMari clothing vertical folding method.
You can divide your drawers so that each space is the perfect size for your type of clothing. This has been my biggest motivator for creating DIY drawer dividers.
How to make drawer dividers
What do you need:
- Card
- wrapping paper or scrapbooking
- double tape markings
- craft knife or scissors
- Scotch tape
- measuring tape
- Ruler
DIY Clothes Drawer Dividers Instructions:
- Measure the height and width dimensions of your drawer where you want the cardboard dividers to fit.
- Mark the lines and the size of your dividers on cardstock or cardboard, then carefully cut them out. Check the size in the drawer before covering the divider and make any necessary adjustments.
- Measure wrapping paper or scrapbook paper large enough to cover both sides of the divider, with the folders on top. Unless you want to keep your splitters authentic... beer brand and all in our case. No
- Attach the cardboard pieces to the paper with double-sided tape. Alternatively, you can use contact paper.
- Insert dividers into your drawer at the desired positions. If necessary, add additional reinforcement with wide tape at drawer ends. This will help keep them from moving.

In fact, I was able to reduce my clothes from 3 overflowing drawers that wouldn't close to 2 tidy drawers that slide out easily and display everything with ease.

We also assembled the kids' drawers with DIY drawer dividers to organize clothes and it made a world of difference keeping our dresser drawers organized.
They definitely need another dry cleaning though. Children's clothing seems to take over the house!

How long do these cardboard drawer dividers last?
The type of cardboard you use to make these DIY dresser drawer dividers and the type of items you use to divide them will affect their lifespan.
I've had our original dividers in our drawers since I first posted this tutorial in 2019. It's almost the end of 2022, and for the most part, they're still fine in our drawers.
Sometimes you need to put them back in place, but what was meant to be a short-term fix has gone the distance.
If your partitions only last a year or two, the fact that they take 15 minutes to create from junk makes it a very reasonable task to redo them too. You have to be happy with that!

If you're not too keen on the DIY option or need something sturdier for other areas of your home such as

Shallow storage bins that fit in drawers are a great option when you want to take things out of your drawer for a closer look...especially when it comes to utensils and knick-knacks.
You can find great options at your local depot or department store.

They can be snapped into different positions to create the right size for your needs.

If you have very large or long drawers, finding the correct dividers may be more difficult. This is also a potential problem when using cardboard dividers that lack center strength if the divider is too long.
